In this period, however, Rhodes flourished. The Knights built the Palace of the Grand Masters, a prestigious and perhaps the most important monument of the period of the Knights.

How to get to Rhodes island

Visit Rhodes, either by sea or air. There are daily ferries from Piraeus to the Rhodes, making stopovers in Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos and Kos and the journey takes about 12 hours. Available are also ferry connections to other islands of the Dodecanese, but also with Crete and the Cycladic islands such as Santorini (the route is Piraeus - Santorini - Kos - Rhodes). "Blue Star Ferries"(a greek ferry company) depart from Piraeus every Monday at 15:00 until 19:00 on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 19:00, Wednesdays at 16:00 and 19:00, Thursdays and Saturdays at 9:00 and 24:00 . Alternatively, they are available daily, direct flights, with scheduled flights from Athens to Rhodes and duration of about 40 minutes. From Rhodes also are enabled flights to Kos, Karpathos, Kastellorizo, Mykonos, Santorini, Heraklion and Thessaloniki (Macedonia Airport serves travelers in Chalkidiki). For other countries, Rhodes is associated with many flights, especially during the summer, and has been selected by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, which created the first base in Greece in Akrotiri and besides Rhodes and Chania also operates flights to and from Thessaloniki, Volos, Kos, Zante, Kefalonia, Corfu, Kalamata and Araxos (Patras).

Finally, for those who want to travel around the island, there are daily scheduled trips. During the tourist season, the frequency of services increases. If you want to move into the city, there are available the city buses.
